Anyone vs. Everyone Anyone vs. Everyone Anyone vs. Everyone By Maeve Maddox A promotional announcement for an end-of-year review on NPR set me thinking about the difference between anyone and everyone: The year 2014 has been no fun for just about everyone. The construction struck me as odd because the negative â€Å"no fun† led me to expect anyone, not everyone. Anyone means anybody or any person. It refers to an individual in a group; which one doesn’t matter. Anyone is the usual choice in negative statements and in questions: There wasn’t anyone in the lobby. I didn’t see anyone in the street. The year 2014 was no fun for anyone. Does anyone remember his name? Can anyone learn how to sing? In addition to its use with negatives and questions, anyone is used for emphasis: Anyone could do it, even a caveman. Everyone means everybody or every person. It refers to all the members in a group. Everyone worked late today. Everyone is welcome at the meetings. Her mother asked everyone to contribute to the food drive. The year 2014 was miserable for just about everyone. In some contexts, there is very little difference between anyone and everyone: Correct: Everyone benefits from a just government. Correct: Anyone benefits from a just government. Sometimes they are not interchangeable: Incorrect: The new CEO knows anyone in the business. Correct : The new CEO knows everyone in the business. Note: One could say, â€Å"The new CEO knows everyone who is anyone in the business.† The NPR sentence sounds unnecessarily convoluted to me, but then, it did catch my attention. Some idioms with anyone: anyone’s guess Something that can’t be known until it happens. â€Å"It’s anyone’s guess who will win the election.† anyone’s game An evenly balanced contest. â€Å"Tied in the seventh inning, it was still anyone’s game.† not give anyone the time of day Ignore someone, out of dislike or boorishness. â€Å"The new employee won’t give anyone the time of day.† Idioms with everyone: everyone who is anyone Anyone of any importance. â€Å"We talked with everyone who is anyone in the world of cycling, starting with urban mobility expert Mikael Colville-Andersen.† can’t please everyone No matter what you do, someone will object to it. â€Å"I stopped worrying about what people thought about my art. After the First Death essays After the first death is a psychological thriller. Patriotism plays a big role in it. The behaviour of some principal figures entirely arises from patriotism. And innocents become victims of it. The story begins with a boy, who kept saying he has a tunnel in his chest. The boy named Ben is the son of a general and thats why he eventually ends up on the bridge and there a bullet caused that tunnel in his chest. It all happened on an old railway bridge. Four hijackers, terrorists, captured a bus full of children under the age six. The hijackers were Artkin, who took charge on this operation, he found Miro and his brother Aniel in a refugeecamp, Miro a sixteen-year-old boy (was he?), who had never known his parents and later also lost his brother, who died before doing his duty and two other men called Antibbe and Stroll. Artkin and Miro reviewed the plan for the last time. They had watched the bus route for weeks. Miros assignment was to kill the driver, his first kill. But when the bus arrived the driver wasnt a man as supposed to be but a girl. The girl was Kate, the niece of the busdriver. When Artkin decides to let the girl live for a while, because she could be useful, Miro was disappointed because he wanted his first death to be perfect, so as they planned it to be and now the first thing went wrong already. Artkin drugged the children with drugged chocolate so they would be asleep. But one child was probably allergic to the drug and died. Of course this wasnt planned but Artkin used it as a warning to the world. Then he went to the van where Antibbe and Stroll were also. He had Miro given the order to watch over the children and Kate and win her confidence. In the conversations that Kate and Miro have, Miro tells about himself to win her confidence and Kate tries to be nice and kind to persuade him not to kill her. The central theme of the book lies in understanding the fight for freedom and Suu Kyi’s commitment to bring about that change with her invincible power of non violence. The chapters in the book, such as ‘Truth is a powerful weapon’ and ‘I never learned to hate my captors’, come from Buddhist beliefs, showing the struggle faced by the civilians of Burma, the brutality that they are subject to and their strong belief i n the theories and teachings of Buddhism. The book clearly shows the strength that lies in the people who believe in non violence, their ability to laugh through the most painful and tortured years of struggle and their tenacity. Governments and metropolises have reacted to the wellbeing of citizens by increasing the punishments for acts of brutality and providing better means for the investigation and trial of these offenses. The animal welfare states that animals can be used for food, clothing and research as long as this is done in a humane way. An example is the slaughter f cows or goats for domestic or commercial purposes. Animal should not be subjected to any kind of suffering. Animal rights activists disagree with this. They argue that many people may misinterpret the word humane and they rule pout the idea of animals being viewed as commodities.

Now being a steward you have to understand that you are Just a manager of the affairs of the master, with the best interest of the master in mind, the steward knows that the master will return and settle all accounts for which they are responsible. A steward doesnt own anything. For every beast of the field is mine. And the cattle on a thousand hills. ow all the birds of the mountains, and the wild beast of the fields are Mine. If I were hungry, I would not tell you: For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. -Psalms 50: 10-12. 1f you take away the servant/master relationship from the idea of stewardship then you take away obedience and put sovereignty in the hands of the steward. As a steward you dont have a say so over things that dont belong to you. Being good steward is impossible to do unless you have the proper perspective about the things in your life. Being a steward you have to be careful about your desires to be rich! Even money doesnt belong to you. Therefore in order to be a good steward you must never view money as a end in itself, but merely as a resource used to accomplish goal and obligation as outlined by God. A good steward has its rewards. God promises that if we are faithful stewards over what we have, God will reward us to be stewards over more things. (Matthew 25:23). So understanding the two we can go on to prosper in the Kingdom.

Educational Goals and Philosophy I feel that education is the most important thing in a child’s life. From Kindergarten through high school, nothing has the impact like schooling. Whether it be their friends or enemies or teachers and principals, everything about it, both good and bad, will determine who that person will be. That is why I want to be a teacher. Many students, particularly high school students, lack a positive role model. Most teachers are either completely out of touch with students or live a lifestyle that the students should not emulate. I am close enough in age to be â€Å"in touch† with the students I am teaching, and I would be a positive role model. Over time, my ability to connect with the students will likely diminish, but maintaining it as much as possible will be my goal. Another reason I decided to enter the profession is due to the subject I will be teaching, social studies. The core subjects in social studies, history, psychology, and civics, are often taught improperly or not taught at all, by which I mean the teacher serves as more of a baby-sitter than a teacher. Teachers in the subjects who do bother to teach it often do it in a strictly lecture style with little if any classroom participation. In history this is understandable, although there can be some participation. In my opinion, the reason for the lack of knowledge in civics and psychology can be explained by the fact that students are only supposed to digest the information rather than participate in a mock government in civics or open discussions in psychology. I think it is important that a teacher incorporate as many teaching styles as possible. One thing that my classroom will have that most classrooms do not is visuals and technology. It is more difficult for students to forget something if they have a concrete memory of it rather than just what the teacher said. I will take advantage of many promotional offers from networks such as C-SPAN that offer educational items for discounted prices or even free to educators.

Four Key Barriers to Communication Essay

There are four key barriers to communication. These barriers are Process barriers, personal barriers, physical barriers and semantic barriers. As a manager I plan to overcome all of these barriers using guidelines, tools, processes and procedures. Process barriers are a big barrier to communication. The process of communication involves sending and receiving a message between two people. Sometimes things go wrong during the transmission of information. To overcome these barriers I would work on my communication skills. I would make sure I am speaking slowly and clearly in easy to understand terms. I would ask the other person to repeat back to me what I said and make sure I use my listening skills to fully understand what they comprehended. I will also not use text messages or email to communication. I will rely on phone and face to face. Another barrier to communication is personal barriers. Personal barriers are related to trust and ego. If two people don’t trust each other the communication process will be distorted. I will use honesty and integrity to earn the trust of my employees. I will not let my ego get in the way of how I run my business. We will have a strict policy for honesty, respect and fair treatment of employees. Physical barriers are pertaining to distance time and work office noise. Sometimes because of distance and time companies use email to communicate. I feel that this is not as good as face to face communication because communication is often misunderstood through email. I will enforce a strict policy of actually talking to each other rather than emailing. Phone calls and Skype will be our primary form of communication at our company. Everyone will have their own office to cut down on background noises. Flex time schedules will be used to compensate for the time difference on the west coast. Sematic barriers are encoding and decoding errors because of phrases and jargon. Cultural diversity is a key contributor to sematic barriers. As a manager I will not allow any company jargon or phrases to be used. We will only speak in terms that the average person could understand. Also when hiring new employees they will be interviewed by 3 different managers with  different foreign accents. If they have trouble understanding different accents then they will not be hired. We will also encourage hiring a very diverse workforce from every culture.
